We made a quick trip to DC in August and took the opportunity to catch up with good friends both from our last post in Mexico City and our time in Virginia. We enjoyed great BBQs, a vineyard, and brunch get togethers with all of Annika's tios y tias.

After two years of great memories, great friends, and great times, our tour in Mexico has come to an end. We said good-bye to our boxing instructor Changa and other boxing amigos at a great last class. Our Mexi-friends treated us to a delicious despedida barbecue at the Moose, complete with grilled fruit sangria and empanadas, and came to say good-bye during happy hour at the St. Regis. Our little family--including Ceniza and Compay--crossed the border to spend home leave in Texas, where we've spoken more Spanish and eaten more tortillas than when we were in Mexico. We're already missing the Mexi-crew dearly but enjoying a summer packed with family time before the next adventure. Click here to view the entire album.
As you may have seen on Facebook, I got Montezuma's revenge right before our trip to Chiapas which of course we had to cancel. My loving wife took good care of me and drove me to the health unit at the embassy where they gave me 2 bags of iv saline and Cipro. Once I started to feel better, Julia and my suegra, Suzan, made a delicious dinner with dessert. Dinner was bbq'd pork loin with a ginger glaze, sweet potatoes, and wild rice. Dessert consisted of banana bread with nuts and homemade vanilla ice cream!
When we heard we would be living in a 4 story housing complex in the D.F. we figured our bbq'ing in the patio days would be over. The public grill was 4 stories below and far away by my lazy standards so grilling steaks has been non existent since arriving here in the D.F. Luckily I have a fantastic wife who after returning from my birthday weekend celebration in Texas, had one last gift waiting for me. A Weber Grill!! Mexico doesn't seem to have laws against grilling in your outdoor walkway and plus we are on the top floor! Tonight, after the torrential rain and ensuing loss of power, I finally grilled a tenderloin steak purchased at our nearby Costco. We will make it after all.
